“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
(Psalm 116:15, English Standard Version)

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away.”
(Revelation 21:4, English Standard Version)

On Saturday, June 22, 2024, with her family at her bedside, Sandra Darlene Edwards, 84, fully and finally transitioned into the LORD’s presence following the cardiac arrest she sustained the preceding Thursday afternoon. She has entered the LORD’s joy and received her reward – her final redemption by and consummation in Him. She now lives on, in full freedom in Him, resting and rejoicing in His presence. Now and forever, she sees Him face to face, basks in His lavish Love, and worships Him with the saints and angels. We, her family and friends, mourn her transition. However, we have Peace, and are grateful to the Lord God, the Father of Jesus Christ, for Who He is, for what He gave us in her, and for creating her and taking her back to Himself. And we rest in the knowledge that she now knows a pure joy, peace, and worship that far exceeds our highest imagination. Our momentary mourning is not worthy to be compared to the weight of the glory in which she now stands. Trust and praise our LORD.

Sandra was born in Chicago, IL in 1939. In her lifetime, she was passionate about and committed to the Lord, her family, and caring for others. The love for others that overflowed from her heart was reflected in the thoughtful, generous, and self-sacrificing service she unhesitatingly extended to her family members and friends; her many years of professional and volunteer service (e.g., in her daughter’s elementary school; as PTA president; in a church nursery serving women who could not afford childcare elsewhere; in the Penn State Behrend Campus’ Admissions office and with the campus’ basketball team; at the Penn State University Park Cultural Center); her unwavering commitment to and involvement in the Church and its global mission; and her frequent outreach to even strangers in need. Even at her end, she continued to serve others through organ and tissue donation. The effect of her generous giving to improve the lives of others ripples onward.

Sandra has now been reunited with loved ones who preceded her into the Lord’s presence. This includes, but is not limited to, her mother, Nancy Ann Bradford. And she leaves behind the grateful hearts of her sisters (Sharon Massey and Veronica James) and their families; her former husband and his family (Clarence and Regina Edwards); her daughters (Janice Edwards-Armstrong and Karole Edwards); her son-in-law (Roderick Armstrong); innumerable extended family members and friends; and an ever-widening circle of lives that were made better through her sacrificial and passionate service.

In accordance with her final wishes, and as a reflection of her selflessness, neither a funeral nor a memorial service will be held for her. In lieu of these arrangements, Sandra, who was a lover of animals, asked that contributions be made in her name to the Humane Society of the United States. Mrs E.. There were many days when you gave me comfort by just allowing me to sit in your office while you worked. You probably didn’t know, but were it not for your presence, I likely would have dropped out of Penn State. Thats how alone and unhappy I felt at times. You gave me a sense of belonging because you cared, you genuinely cared. I’ll never forget how you welcomed me into your home, and how you permitted me to tag along and be a guide when you made business trips to Philly. Most precious is the memory of dining, seated on the floor Moroccan-style, at the Marrakech Restaurant, and laughing so heartily that we could barely eat our meal. You also taught me a lesson that I have retained and passed onto my Son, a man always travels with a razor. Something so trivial made such a lasting impact. Your earthly work is now done and you will be blessed because you did that work always from your heart. Good night sweet Princess Sandra and may flights of angels sing thee to thy peaceful rest.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a wonderful woman. She always had a smile on her face and always spoke to everyone when she came into the door. She was such a bright light in our lives and she will be greatly missed.

It’s with great joy that we celebrate Moms homecoming. My memories of her sweet spirit will forever fill my heart and put a smile on my face. The Vaughn brothers chapter at PSU-Behrend would have never been the same without you. Your presence at all of our basketball game made us play at a different level. You were the true MVP of our team. Enjoy your new home and be on the lookout for me one day. ❤️🌹love ya.

While we did not know Sandra, we are the beneficiaries of her legacy through Karole. Sandra was obviously faithful to train up Karole in the way she should go, for which we are profoundly grateful and from which we benefit. We sorrow in your loss, yet rejoice in God our Savior for her well-lived and loved life.
