Julia A. Cowden (Jay) age 99 died in her home on June 26, 2024. She was born May 4, 1925 to Kathryn Pavlin Runtas and Martin Runtas in Cherry Valley where she lived her entire life. In 1946 she married the love of her life H. Wayne Cowden. They celebrated 70 anniversaries before his passing. They operated “Cowdens” for 46 years.

Jay was a graduate of Burgettstown Union High School. She worked as a welder on LST boats during WWII. An Avid bowler, she participated in many bowling leagues and tournaments. She was inducted into Washington County Bowling Hall of Fame in 1999. In addition to bowling, enjoyed gardening and scrapbooking.

Surviving are her daughter Kathy Dye of Burgettstown, son Kenneth (Donna) of Florida, and 3 loving grandsons: KC (Karrin) Cowden and Michael (Darian) Cowden of Robinson and their mother Jane Cowden, John (Natalie) Dye of Burgettstown. Two great-granddaughters Issobell and Bridgette Dye of Burgettstown, and one great-grandson Jack Cowden of Robinson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is the last of her immediate family.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery.

I will always remember Aunt Jay’s delight in laughter…such a quality in life to share. She will be greatly missed by family and all who knew and loved her.
