Evalyn Karns Brendel, age 92, passed away peacefully after a life well lived, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Providence Point where she made her home in recent years. Evalyn was born on December 10, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Donald Porter Karns and Mary Stuart Karns.  A descendent of Scottish immigrants who realized the American dream, Evalyn infused her daughter and grandchildren with a strong appreciation of their heritage.  Her dignity and grace left an enduring impression on everyone she met.

Evalyn was a graduate of Carnegie Melon University and Case Western Reserve University.  She enjoyed a long career as a professional dietitian and nutritionist.  One of her greatest pleasures was travelling the world with her husband, Emil, with whom she shared a love of food and culture. When not on one of her many excursions, The Pittsburgh Symphony and Opera is where she could be found on most Sundays.
Evalyn is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Mills, grandchildren Samantha Huff (Andrew) and Daniel Mills, as well as two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and sisters Dorothy Ergun and Sarah Clark.  A great and gracious lady, Evalyn will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Evalyn’s life on Saturday, October 13th from 2:30 – 4:00 PM at Providence Point.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Evalyn’s memory to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choosing.
