Betty B. Bowman, age 96, of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully at Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair on Sunday, January 6, 2013.  Betty was the beloved wife of the late George A. Bowman; loving mother of Barbara (Robert) Pierce and Robert (Kathy) Bowman; adored grandmother of Steven Pierce, Anne (J.J.) Schaum, Margaret Pierce, and Michael (Jennifer), Matthew and Jeffrey Bowman; and great-grandmother of Miranda, Jackson, Dylan, Aiden, and Mirra.  She is also survived by sister-in-law Priscilla Bain.  Betty was predeceased by her brother Robert Bain.

Betty Burdette Bain Bowman was born in Washington, D.C. on June 18, 1916.  She graduated from Central High School and the University of Maryland in College Park, earning a degree in home economics.  She then earned her master’s degree in nutrition at Cornell University.  She began her teaching career at Armstrong Junior College in Savannah, GA. Betty excelled at her two careers: raising a family and substitute teaching in public schools.  She was an admired and gifted educator of children of all ages and various school districts in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.  Betty will be missed by those whose lives she touched as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  Her loving, generous heart and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed.

 A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held with friends and family at Friendship Village, 1290 Boyce Rd. Upper St. Clair, PA 15241, on Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 AM.  Private inurnment will follow at Christ United Methodist Church Columbarium.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Federation of the Blind, 200 East Wells St., Baltimore, MD 21230 or Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Rd., Bethel Park, PA 15102.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Cremation & Funeral Care by Danielle Andy Belusko, 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546.  Please view and sign the family’s online guestbook at: www.cremationfuneralcare.com
