Staff Sergeant Richard Gitzen was my DI in January 1969, Plt 105 At Parris Island. I last saw him the day I graduated on March 27, 1969 but I've thought of him often since then. I reinlisted and spent 9 years in our beloved Corps, always hoping I'd get a chance to serve with him again. He was an inspirational leader and a Marine's Marine. I'm sorry to learn of his passing. Semper Fidelis, Sir. Fair winds and following seas.
